Some people make their own meanings consciously, but for some, their arbitrary "purpose in life" is sort of thrust upon them; they cannot really control what matters most to them.
For me, it is both. Past everything, it all comes down to arbitrary passion, and luckily this coincides with what "makes sense" to my more reflective mind.
currently, I don't believe there is meaning. I don't believe life is a symbol for anything else, it just is. Besides which, you would have to be removed from it to be able to see meaning in it. These words do not believe they represent anything more than they are. A rose does not believe it represents love, it has no concept of love. If we have meaning, it is to something with an understanding far beyond our own. If life has meaning... it's completely irrelevant to me.
As for the why/how's, (purpose,) at the moment I do not know, and think it's best that way.
The water engulfs you Pulling you deeper The current is playful As it tugs at your legs Your lungs are on fire And your arms move so slowly When you claw for the surface Desperate for air The world grows darker As you're wrenched ever downward So you open your mouth For a scream no one answers Crying for help as you Feel your grip slipping With nothing below you But miles of empty Space with the promise Of rocks for your landing And your fingers are cramping But your feet find no purchase On the cliff face from Which you find yourself hanging And the wind offers threats To pull you and fling you And drop you to fate So far below you This is no dream No vision fast fading This is what life is Get used to the feeling.
These are all purposes of life but I beg to differ that there is a meaning at all. A cup contains liquid. This is a cups purpose. Has anyone ever asked you "what's the meaning of a cup?"
i'm not sure, mabey one of the following: the procreative act, money, fast cars, love, drugs, rock and roll, chocolate (i'm leaning towards the last one)

To respect what we were giving (a chance to be) and to do all in our power to make a real go of it and not give it up or throw it away casually.
The meaning of life: live. anyway, every way, some way.

Survival and reproduction.
What an individual's life means is up to that individual.

Pulling you deeper
The current is playful
As it tugs at your legs
Your lungs are on fire
And your arms move so slowly
When you claw for the surface
Desperate for air
The world grows darker
As you're wrenched ever downward
So you open your mouth
For a scream no one answers
Crying for help as you
Feel your grip slipping
With nothing below you
But miles of empty
Space with the promise
Of rocks for your landing
And your fingers are cramping
But your feet find no purchase
On the cliff face from
Which you find yourself hanging
And the wind offers threats
To pull you and fling you
And drop you to fate
So far below you
This is no dream
No vision fast fading
This is what life is
Get used to the feeling.
