Europe in the Summer of 1980. I was there for three months backpacking by myself.
The Police played a free concert in Vondelpark while I was in Amsterdam, X was at a club in London and I didn't go to either one! What was I thinking?
And I'd also hang on to my claim ticket for my backpack. I dropped it while I was stoned and heading off to bed one night at some dive I was staying and someone walked off with my pack and all my clothes and my exposed film.
But I'd still opt to sleep on the beach in a tent in the rain between those two Swedish guys over calling ahead and finding a hotel room in the South of France amongst other happy accidents that 20 year old had! ;-)
Home... where the ocean/beach is 10 minutes away, where a beautiful lake is 20 minutes away and where the most glorious mountains are only 60 minutes away. It would be Autumn. I could live in that place and that time of year forever and never get bored of it and always see the beauty in it.
There was a moment on the beach in Oregon, when I met this awsome man, and we had been trying to fly kites in no wind... We finally gave up and sat in the sand. The sun was warm.. the sky was blue... and I felt his fingers take mine in the warm sand. sigh.. yup. that would be one of the moments.
Family vacation when I was 8 on Pelee Island (canada's southernmost point). A time when my parents were still happily married, I was surrounded by immediate and extended family who loved me. It was also a time before responsibilities, the worries of relationships and working.
I would be on my second trip to NYC with my college buddies. The only thing missing from that trip was my husband. If he could have gone with me, it would have been perfect, but it was great anyway!
