Question of the Day

Is the joy of the flight worth the fall?

[identity profile] miriyasterling.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
My instant response would have been yes... before I realized that I fall down a lot. Of course if one doesn't though than life tends to be boring.

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think that the harder the fall, the longer the recovery?

[identity profile] burnedfeather.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
As long as you can get back up. Once I've experienced everything else... then the final flight will be worth the final fall. I just don't ever see myself filled with that many experiences where I can someday say I've done it all. Time will tell...

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think you learn more from every fall?

But do the scars make you aim lower each time?

First Response

[identity profile] epiphany.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
My knee jerk response was, "Always!"

But on further thought, why does a flight have to end with a fall? Why can't ya just plan for a safe flight and a happy landing?

:D

If you learn from the falls, you don't have to fall again, right?

[identity profile] infinitywhisper.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
No. It's idiocy. I think some call it living dangerously with a death wish.

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you think you can fly without falling?

Everything has to come to an end some time. Do you want it to end on your terms or theirs?

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Always on your own terms :)

[identity profile] mighty-rontor.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Flight is postponed falling, only with greater lessening of the crash. so, yes.

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So from falling in the past, you learn how to fall gently?

[identity profile] voldelange.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
yes!

...you can always get up... if you don't really fly and fall...then...pray you don't fall...:P

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

Isn't it better to learn from the fall, rather than just pray?

If you don't fly, you'll never have a chance of reaching your fullest potential.  Falling's only bad if you hit the ground and learn nothing from the experience.

yes.......even if it kills me in the process. (which i have no doubt it will someday.....ooopsie.)

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
What lessons do you learn from the fall?

My Icarian heart says yes, always. Burn the candle at both ends, Ah my foes and oh my friends, and all that sort of thing.

My more sensible Daedalan mind says no, never. Everyday life, with its books, its embraces, its cups of tea, is too precious to risk on one moment of ecstatic flight.

I imagine the correct answer is somewhere in between.

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say that learning from the fall, you can fly forever :)

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say there is more to be learned from falling, than there is from flying...

[identity profile] donnickcottage.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. But the fall is a bitch, and the landing... YOW!

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yow!

But after learning from the fall, you can fly forever :)

[identity profile] sideshowmel.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
that is something you would have needed to ask of icarus

[identity profile] ayoub.livejournal.com 2006-09-20 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I missed that opportunity ;)
