At the roots? Because all life has the twin urges to survive and reproduce. Love is an advanced form of both drives, human beings being the herd animals that we are. In community do we thrive. In packs do we survive. And to trust someone enough to be part of your pack or herd is to love them, after a fashion. Love applied to reproduction is obvious, I will not elaborate.
Love is hard to define because it's so different for each person and yet two people desire to find each other and make it happen. How can you define something that is always changing, growing, adapting to life? Yet it is because it grows, changes and adapts to survive that we desire it so much.
Love causes similar chemical responses in the brain as many psychotropic drugs & we all know how much people like those! Evolution has made love feel so euphoric and so good to ensure reproduction. And to ensure that the parents care enough for their kids that those kids survive & grow up to reproduce themselves.
No idea whatsoever. IDK why anyone would want it. I just kind of fell into it. Ironically, I didn't even want it at the time. :P
So to answer your question, I think that as many that want it, oftentimes are looking for it and dont find it, whereas people who dont and its at the most inconveniet of times, find it.
The cynic in me says it's because they want what they can't have. The lonely romantic in me says it's because I miss having someone to share the daily stuff with, someone to count on, and someone to share myself with. Some other stuff to do with intimacy, etc.
Everyone first imagines love as this thing that's just easy as piss. It's so fucking easy to say "I love you," but the reality is that living up to that notion is hard work. It's easy to love, but it takes work to love constantly. Saying "I love you" is a promise, and a lot of people don't realize how powerful the phrase is nor how profoundly it may affect the recipient.
