Memorial Day
May. 25th, 2009 01:10 pmWhile Memorial Day isn't a British holiday (we have Armistice Day for this), I'm not one to let any day honouring the men and women of the armed forces go by without saying Thank You.
I have made, and will likely continue to make, a great deal of posts against war. In my ideal world, there would be no wars, and little need to call on people to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
But this is the real world and the call is there. The ones who answer it and go on to defend people they've never met, are heroes, and will have my undying gratitude and support.
So, to all who have served or are serving, and to their families, loved ones, and friends, from the bottom of my heart;
Thank You
For until we have peace, what peace we have, is because of you.

What if the Nazis had won?
They say history is written by the winner, and to a great extent, that is true, but if they would have won, one of the things that would have happened is that there would be no acceptance of another colour, race, religion, or lifestyle. We would all be straight blue eyed blondes, or dead.
Many men and women died to prevent that.
They died in preserving the foundation for our way of life today.
We must remember those men and women who are always on active duty. Those who laid down their lives to help form the world we live in today.
Spreading the blatant prejudice that is inherent in trying to ban marriages for those who are not like you, does not honour the fallen, because any statement that gives one human being more rights than another is the beginnings of selecting a new master race.
We are not all the same. And those who want everyone to believe the same thing, and be the same? Well... It's been tried, and too many have died to stop it already.
Unless, of course, you think Hitler should have won, and we should all be Aryans. And yeah, if you do, then you are allowed to think that, because of the freedoms you enjoy.
Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind...War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.
~ John F. Kennedy
Of course, there is more to this, in history. There are things the Alliance didn't do properly at the end of the war, and I am making this very black and white, but, as it is my journal, and these are my opinions, I can do it, again, because of the freedoms I enjoy.

11th September, 2007
Sep. 11th, 2007 10:20 amMay all who were lost be avenged.
And may their souls find peace.
It's a memory that is burned into my mind... The sadness at what appeared to be a terrible accident that turned into a cold fear that the world had changed. The grief, the frantic searching for news, any news, on what had actually happened.
I think back now, six years on, considering what has happened since then, and the cold fingers of fear wrap themselves around my heart again.
Today, I will try to be a positive force in the world, because on the anniversary of such a heinous event, as much positivity as can be gathered is needed.
And may their souls find peace.

Armistice Day
Nov. 11th, 2006 08:50 amRemember...
Every life lost
in defending our shores
was a child
taken away from a parent
a sibling
stolen from the home
a friend
mourned on each night out
a lover
never to warm the sheets again
Remember
those who gave the ultimate sacrifice
spare thoughts
for the families they left behind
offer prayers
for those heroes who died for us
and hope
that the ones at risk now come home safely
Remember...
At 11:00 on 11/11 We remember the Eleventh Hour, when all was nearly lost, and give thanks for the turning of the tide, while remembering those soldiers, who are always on active duty.

Stand tall
Defiant
Let those who died
not die in vain
Let the murderers know
they will not prevail
Stand tall
Defiant
Against the fear
they want us to feel
Stop their tactics
by not bowing to them
Stand tall
Defiant
Side by side in unity
our numbers are superior
Side by side in strength
our will is greater
Stand tall
Defiant
We shall not be broken
by their twisted version of faith
We will still be standing
when there is nothing left of them
Stand tall
DEFY THEM!
Defiant

They stood on the line facing a fearful power
And lay down their lives for us to survive
We will remember them at the eleventh hour
In day to day life while we lament our strife
Sometimes we forget those who fought
And lay down their lives for us to survive
Time to remember can be so short
We try to do as much as we can
Sometimes we forget those who fought
When we remember, in silence we stand
And give our thanks to their resting souls
We try to do as much as we can
Our time to remember has again drawn close
We stand at attention as they once did
And give our thanks to their resting souls
On this eleventh day of November we will
Remembering all our fallen warriors stand proud
We stand at attention as they once did
We will remember them at the eleventh hour
And lay down their lives for us to survive
We will remember them at the eleventh hour
In day to day life while we lament our strife
Sometimes we forget those who fought
And lay down their lives for us to survive
