Foxing the Ban

So fox hunting is up despite the 'ban'? Well, if you're going to ban something, ban it properly I say, but as usual, this government makes a hash out of everything.

As far as hunting goes though, I'm not supportive, but I don't see a reason to ban it. And while I think all animals deserve a right to live, I'd also rather see hunting of animals than of humans...

Also, they say that 223,000 more people migrated to the UK than left in 2004. That just proves that although expensive, this country is still a great place to live :D

Again, the US are interfering with what another country does. I wonder if we'll start seeing some propaganda soon portraying the Chinese as the next evil empire to be crushed...
America doesn't like competition, and China are becoming exactly that...

More hurricane evacuations, this time for Wilma... I hope everyone in the path stays safe...

Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners.
~ Edward Abbey

ANARCHISM:--The philosophy of a new social order based on liberty unrestricted by man-made law; the theory that all forms of government rest on violence, and are therefore wrong and harmful, as well as unnecessary.
~ Emma Goldman

As you can probably tell, I've become a bit of an Anarchist. But I'm also an Idealist, and under the cold light of the moon, I can be a realist.

The failure I see in anarchy has been very well communicated by [livejournal.com profile] childeofloki, when he said:
All it would take is for one charismatic person to decide that "those sheep herding bastards in the next valley have better land then us, I say we take it!" In a world of small communities, one wouldn't need to amass great armies. All you need is some good ol' boys and some sharp sticks.
You cannot kill the fighting spirit in man. If you did, what then? What if bandits spring up between those communities, throw backs of an older, violent time? Who will stop them from rampaging throughout the country, killing, taking, and raping as they will?

And then we get back to a requirement for authority and defence. So it's a catch 22.

The other option behavioural modification... But that's unethical

It was tried years ago to ship off all the aggressive folk to Australia, but that didn't work either ( too many are back and working in the UK now ;) )

Is it too arrogant to say that humanity isn't ready for peace yet? Maybe, I'm not immune to anger and the need to punch someone in the face every now and then...

But we are stuck in a never ending cycle of war and peace. War may have given us a lot of technology that we take for granted today, but is that a fair trade?

Anyway, I'm rambling... maybe one day I'll get all of this straight in my head and write a book about it... Yeah, me, a political theorist... At least my Mum would be proud...

The Choke-a-Chicken
Aussie animal lovers are up in arms about a dancing chicken toy which squawks and slaps his wings when strangled, slamming the Taiwanese novelty as "grossly irresponsible", AP reports.

The Choke-a-Chicken is imported into Oz by Jaycar Electronics, which pitches the electronic pet at kiddies over three. The blurb explains:

The Choke-A-Chicken flaps and waddles around doing the Chicken Dance,
clucking and flapping its wings in sync with the Chicken Dance melody. Grab him
by the neck and he will squawk and cluck like mad, flapping his wings and feet
wildly as if he is really being choked. Put him down and he will waddle off,
singing and dancing as he goes.

Michael Beatty, spokesman for the Queensland state branch of the Royal
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, fumed: "What's next? Burn a
cat? Shoot a dog? Children of that age are likely to turn around and try the
same thing on their pet bird or even the cat or dog. Then they're going to
wonder why the animal fights back."
