What would you like to be your legacy?

To elaborate...

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.
~ Walt Whitman

What do you want your verse to be? In prose, or just in words...

Thank you everyone for your answers in these QotD posts of mine :D

I want to be remembered as being a friend.
I want my legacy to be wisdom over action,
warmth over strength, caring over being correct.

I think about this a lot.

Sometimes I'd like to think that I was that person . . .
. . . who brought smiles and laughter everywhere they went
. . . who everyone wanted to know
. . . who everyone wanted to spend time with
. . . who did the kind of things others couldn't bring themselves to do
. . . who was always there no matter what, even when it didn't seem like it could be possible
. . . who is a part of everyone's most prominent memories
. . . who accomplished everything they set out to do
. . . who taught others to do the same with ease
. . . who wasn't selfish
. . . who wasn't judgemental
. . . who gave until there was nothing left to give without losing anything
I'm sure there's more I could add to this thought . . . I'm sure I'll be remembered most, though, as the woman who couldn't really think clearly at first light without a cup of coffee or two. ::smiles::

That I was the person I always said I was.

That my love was felt and my faith in each person fully realised by each and every one of them.

That my acts of kindness rippled down through the fabric of time.

That love isn't a 4 letter word but a true feeling. That my unconditional love was felt true.

That I did everything I could to aid my son/children in his/their personal endeavours/journeys.

That I never turned my back on people or my word.

The insight and dark beauty of my written words.

I want to be remembered as a court jester: wacky and witty, but wise. A person can be self-deprecating for another's good humor and still be wise enough to not only know shit from Shinola, but can also be wise enough to make his japes appreciated by all folks, regardless of their education or sophistication. When I die, I want to be cremated straight away with no delay so that people can party and laugh over my wacky doings! I do not wish to be mourned ever! I would rather be celebrated and laughed at. I want the tears to be of laughter, not sorrow. I am not mourned in life and I shall not suffer being mourned upon my passing! Why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT FUCKING FUNNY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

So when I die, laugh, roast me, reminisce upon my jibes, japes and horrendous puns (there's a shit-ton of them [a shit-ton is like a metric ton, only completely not]). Remember: The cloud might not have a silver lining, but doesn't it strangely look like Hitler with a penis in his mouth? I want people to find humor in anything, even the grave and sad, so that they can at least laugh when things aren't so great. Maybe that can help them be happy from time to time.

That's the legacy that I want to leave.

"I'm Giacomo, Giacomo, my fame before me rings,
King of jesters, and jester of kings!"
~Danny Kaye & Sylvia Fine, The Court Jester.

i want my actions to reverberate through my family that i've made.

To have made people smile.

To have made people forget their worries at least for a short time.

Have you ever read A Wrinkle in Time? Your Whitman quote made me think of Mrs. Whatsit, one of the guide characters, comparing life to a sonnet: a structure within which one was complete freedom to express whatever one chooses.

Anyway, my answer:

I would like my legacy to consist mostly of a few children of healthy mind and body who go out into the world and become good people. The world needs more of those, I think.

If possible, I'd like it to also include a well-liked novel or two and some poetry. I'd like it very much if any of them brought someone joy the way the work of so many authors and poets has brought me joy.

I'd also like to think that any brilliant mathematical discoveries that Mr. Bill comes up with will be partly to my credit, as well. They'll come out of his brain, but I am partially responsible for making sure his brain remains in working order, so I will secretly give myself some of the credit for them, too.

Mostly, I'd just like to leave the world happier than I found it, through whatever means I can. If the only legacy I leave is a few lines of verse in a forgotten anthology somewhere, I will be well pleased as long as they make someone somewhere smile.

a child who loves to read
something seen as beautiful that previously went unnoticed
smiles, at unexpected moments, remembering
laughter
and, most of all, (like everyone else,) love

I want the people I loved to see something beautiful, whether it's a glorious sunset or the laces of a sneaker trailing on the ground, and think of me. I want them to smile to themselves, walking on the beach, remembering when we danced in the waves. And when they think of me I want them to glow, because they know I love(d) them, know they are important, and know that it was all worthwhile. I want them to laugh, when they feel lonely or sad, thinking of something I might have said. And I want them to be that for others.
