From within. And having said that I know a lot of people might think that their strength can come from outside sources. To me, this is only apparently true. That is, it's a superficial observation. While outside sources can inspire feats of strength, it is really from within that the strength is found. The outside source only stimulates it.

LJ Comments doesn't allow enough room to answer this question properly. If I had to summarize:

Me and those I love, trust, admire and respect.

similiarly i find it from within but more specific i find it in my ability to meet every deadline when it gets to looking like i won't (therefore losing marks for late submission, degree-wise speaking).
I find strength in the accomplishment of alot of women before and a few after me. You're never too old to admire the younger ones (yes I know I'm still young mahself :P)
My biggest strength I have today has come from my accomplishment: beating depression over a long draining 3 year period, with a big help from my friends. Thats a strength that makes me feel like I can handle anything.
Its nice to be able to empower yourself.

Thanks for asking this question *big hugs* I love answering them when you do! I love a good ol' mental challenge and a neverending comment...whoops!!

And this is where we'll have to agree to disagree. Some strength does come from within, yes...

But what about those that are strong for you, when you're at your weakest? Those that 'carry you through' the roughest parts and help you get back on your feet again?

the place I grew up,
a wild hillside in Lancashire...
I haven't stood on its turf for years,
but I find that it is so much a part of me
that being physically there
isn't necessary.
I can still gain some strength from just visualising it.

but it works for me
and I guess we all have somewhere like that
hidden in our hearts
however far we wander

You can't know what to always do, true; but sometimes it's also in knowing what not to do. It's not fool-proof; never is. Then again it's the trying that counts. It's like success in a way: The more you practice, the better you get. Strength is like that.

Hell, sometimes strength isn't strength to begin with. It's all in the training. Military basic training doesn't teach you a job, it trains you to trust your training blindly so that you can perform your job no matter what your situation is. Ask any war veteran who saw combat and got medals. "We weren't heroes," they always, always say, "We were just doing what had to be done." Of course we who haven't been in that frenzied frey would call them heroes! We have time to think about it! To us, they're a movie. To them, hell, they didn't have the luxury of time to think. They only had just enough time to do what they were trained to. It's the same with firemen, cops, ER staff and other life-or-death jobs.

Thinking about it, I think that strength comes from knowing that something has to be done, knowing that it's not going to be a piece of piss, and doing it anyway, because not doing anything would foster a greater wrong.
