Is it wiser to ask "why" rather than "how", and why do you think that?

it's best to ask first "why" just to know if something it's worth trying or just a whim you shouldn't waste time on and then "how" to know how to do whatever you decided was worth doing. there's no sense in wasting time on things that are of no use for you ;)

I have learnt it is also sometimes wise not only to ask why,
but also to say NO! not always easy......

why do you ask?

lol

How do you think that? Kidding.

Maybe. "Why" asks purpose and may clear the fog enough to see if there's a viable goal. "How" asks tactics. I think that "why" has a tendency to precede "how".

Neither question is more important than the other. If you're going to ask "why" and "how", shouldn't you also be asking the rest of the questions: "who", "what", "where", and "when"?

Better to know why before trying to find out how, at any rate :)

Asking why can give you a reason to say no :)

Why do I ask? Hmmmmmmmm Maybe I'll go into that later :)

As always, the questions are open context :D

I would say "Why" is more important than "How", because often it's the more difficult question to answer...

yes

because "why" will show the reasons why (lol) will show the purpose, the how is just the method and that can vary n its wide but the why must be only one..

No, because my personal choice to say "how" always makes people laugh because it is SO representative of not only the town, but the AREA of the town which I grew up in. It gives everyone a laugh.
I can't think of a deep answer to that question :D

For me the question 'why' tends to make a mess of things.

Why is good for objectives, not so good for human consumption.. .lol. Tends to give one a belly ache. I've found it is better to lead some one with the ANSWER to the question 'why' than to ask it.

Why tends toward abstracts, and the obvious is the general rule of answer - all too often the true answer is dismissed or not seen because it's never truly obvious.

"How". . . heh, isn't it obvious? That one gets me into trouble too.

So for me, neither work overly well. The tend to come from my analytical side. . . which tends to irritate the heck out of most.
And tends to place them on the defensive.

But answering either the why or the how, if I have the answer -

And curiosity of why and how. . . caused the world not to be flat any longer.

They need to hold hands.

They need to hold hands

I like that!

I've always placed the "why" first, personally... Make sure you know why and why not, before moving on to the how... :)

There's no clear answer to that question. They are both relative to the person asking and the intended object or goal.

Yes, it is wiser to ask why... because that opens up so many more doors into knowledge- it's less a mechanical question than how.

I wouldn't say either is more wise than the other. There is a time and place for both. Asking how something works is often more pragmatic than asking why it does, but that doesn't mean that asking why is futile or less wise.

Just remember what they always say; there are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

How ... then why. You might not need to ask why if you know how ... you could probably figure it out on your own.

Thing is ... I can usually see the why before I even ask the how ... it's just how I am. Call it vision, psychic what have ya, I can usually see right inside without needing the why.

Makes sense right? Just nod and humor me please ... smiles.
