even the word gender has its own semantic problems because while technically it simply implies a certain form of body in our common usage, it also applies to transcendent qualities that do not necessarily apply to either of the sexes specifically.

Think of this though... even if we accept the standard gender attributions, male = active/creative, female=receptive... you can then attribute omnipotence to maleness and omniscience to femaleness. Combine this with some of the divine names that different religions attribute to God, you'll see its impossible to pin down just one sexual polarity :)

And then you have Creation myths such as the Spider Woman where the creator god is neither male or female, but multiple gods collaborating.

The Goddess Discordia of disorganised religion... now thats another matter ;)
