How do you prepare yourself for difficult conversations?

Usually a kingsize cup of tea, breath deeply and go for it....then cringe hopefully and listen for an answer.

:)

Sorta- I go over in my head what we could talk about. Besides that, I excell at small talk. I could talk to anyone, including a brick wall.

I usually write an outline, then write in more detail what I plan on saying so I know exactly what to say instead of fishing for words. I like writing a lot because I feel like I can express how I feel better than speaking. I am not a good writer but I feel that I am better at writing than at speaking so I figure it's better then just trying to pull something out of the air, to have it planned out. If something in the convo comes up that I didn't prepare for I just do my best or say that I need some time to think about it and then finishe discussing it at another time.

*deep cleansing breath*

(I hide the hammer behind my back in case I need it)

I also find that wearing a manic grin is a big advantage...people often wonder what you know that they don't...

Moonlight.

Whether on the giving or receiving end, I'll put on something red - even if it's only a red gemstone.

My most difficult conversations are with God, my saints and angels. All other conversations are quite easy in comparison.

Hope you're loving the day!

I use mental imagery...of me punching them in the face repeatedly until their nose is concave. Nothing I tell them could be as bad as that.

I go for a drive and talk it out...or talk it out in the shower.

I take a quick moment of silence then get right to the point.

I take that back... I usually begin by saying: "Do you want the bad news or the BAD news?" HE HE

If I am the one dispensing the difficult, I try to imagine how the listener will hear what I have to say. I try to use blunt compassion: "I'm sooooo sorry, but you have fucked up royally."

If I am the one getting the difficult, I steel my spine and grit my teeth and try to act like nothing phases me.

If neither option is working, cry like a little girl.

Alcohol and lots of it. (Joking!)

I rehearse what I'm going to say, think of the possible routes the conversation may lead, plan a reply just in case it goes down any one of the paths I have thought about.

Mostly it never works out that way, I work myself up. I take a deep breath and mumble what I want to say quickly and then I'm outta there!
