I'm a huge procrastinator. If it's nothing that will bring about the apocalypse or otherwise ruin my life, then i just set it aside until it's moldy and/or toxic. Then i'll deal with it by setting it on fire and watching the pretty flames. Either figuratively or literally.
Deadlines are more like elastic for me in my field.... I more have to prioritize, figure out first what actually has a real deadline/has to get done. Be sure to get that done, then spend any other time on the lesser priority stuff.
I used to be very good at making deadlines. I would be anal about finding out deadlines enough before hand, so I would then be excellent at pacing.
Seriously, though... If it's for work, I build in a 'cushion' of time for me. I'll ask for a deadline, and then back that date up a few days for me. (That's where the 'cushion' comes in.) I don't usually tell the person I'm doing the project for what "my" deadline is, as I already know their's. I work everything out to my deadline. If there's a problem or issue, I have a little breathing room to either fix or replace what's wrong.
If it's for my personal projects... That's a whole other story. I'll ask for deadlines... and then procrastinate starting on it. Then I'll work like a mad-monkey to get it done in time.
Then I get nearly hysterical, brandish my arms around in headless manner, swearing like a sailor. Better don´t stand in my way then.
Nevertheless I finish it in time, but I´m a nervous wreck then, saying to myself I will NEVER procrastinate something again... but I forget it till the next time. ;-)
I keep my head down and hope no one notices as the deadline flies by. If they were that concerned about the deadline they should have either moved the deadline or moved the work to someone that was actually going to do it.
haha...I wait until I think I have just enough time to get things done..then drive myself in sane playing "beat the clock"...I thrive under that kind of pressure....or I simply love to procrastinate...
Well, considering that I just had a deadline to meet. (I have a presentation due for my class on Friday.... I just completed it tonight. LOL) I'd say I'm 100% procrastinator... though not quite as bad as I used to be in my younger days!!
I definitely work better under pressure. If I have lots of time to plan something- I get distracted and can't think. So I guess less time for me = genius!

Date: 2008-04-09 11:56 am (UTC)That is, of course, only if I don't like the project. If I like it, I start immediately after it gets assigned.
