I turn the world off and simply listen to my breathing and the ambient sounds around me. I make myself not listen to the voices in my head. I imagine my tranquility and understand that it already exists, which makes it easier to shift into. I quiet my mind to become aware of my environment. I listen to the nothing.
Get home, have a super long hot bath (topping up with hot water as necessary) whilst drinking a glass of wine and reading a book, before heading to bed.
If I have longer than just an evening to recover, then pretty much laze around not talking to anyone (as in talking on the phone or in person), do things I enjoy, like GW, nap when I can, eat when I have to, finish that period off with another super long hot bath as above.
There must be something wrong with me because when i read the "busy period" part i immediately thought of a womanly period... *sigh*
movin on: I usually snuggle with my husband & spend time just AT HOME chilling with him. That tends to calm me. Sex helps too. (it's all those lovely endorphins) And if ALL that doesn't work, a good, hard, stiff drink helps a lot. ;-)
Sleeping extra doesn't tend to happen for me until about a week or so after the busy period. I'm still too wound up. Things that help me wind down are getting out into nature and hiking around a bit, watching movies, reading books, catching up with friends on the phone and in person, going swimming, sex, cooking fun things, getting a massage.
Doing what I'm doing now... browsing the internet and updating my journal. I also love photoshopping my photos and uploading them and just browsing through them. Photos relax me.
Not to mention painting, but that's not always something I can do in the midst/right after a busy period... Oh and running helps to. A wondrous day is one where I both paint and run.
Yoga followed by a bubble bath. Tea. Comfortable clothes (for me this is a tank top and pj bottoms). A book that I've read before so if I do happen to relax enough to take a nap I'm not overly involved in the story.

Date: 2008-07-01 03:23 pm (UTC)I veg.
I read.
I putter on the 'puter.
I play video games.
I watch TV.
I work around the house.
I just find a distraction.
I do try not to just spend my free time in bed unless I'm just exhausted.

It's even better if the sun is shining.
