I think that if a half-truth comes from someone who honestly cares, then it's a burden on them and isn't necessarily a bad thing. If it's used with ill intent, then I agree. See, lies & half-lies are never just black and white for me.

My mom told me, "Be like Renato. Even if someone makes fun of him, if it's a good joke, he just laaaaaughs..." She told me that in 5th grade because she knew that the rich snobby kids would always make fun of me.

That was the first turning point in my life, forever changing my destiny. I actually made friends with those same kids. If not for me "getting" that, I do believe that I would be a miserable, bitter, unjustifiably self-centered, shallow, common garden variety asshole of a human being. I think that a piece of advice like that can make a child a better person for himself in life if not for others around him. I'm going to instill that on my kids, and see if I can't make things nicer for the world.
