What's your view on personal responsibility?

I'll take responsibility for whatever I do, no matter how distasteful the action seems in hindsight...

That it's mostly a myth these days which is very sad & helps to explain a lot of the crap going on in the world.

I take full responsibility for my actions. Everyone will mess up and do something stupid at least once, just admit it and move on, it will help those around you to move on from the incident as well.

Responsibility = Integrity = Honour = Discipline

The highest calling of the Human Spirit.

In the end, the only people who are truly mortified by their past mistakes are those who never acknowledged or corrected them. We should never regret anything that we've learned in the process of becoming the dutiful inheritors of this world. We just have to make sure the bad shit doesn't happen again once we've learned how to be better. That's responsibility.

People should own up to it more. A lack of owning up to it is akin to cowardice. The flip side to that is that sometimes turn out differently than planned because of circumstances out of one's control, so even if one starts something, how it ends might not be one's responsibility.

If a hurricane level's your Jamaican resort that you paid in advance on, it's not your fault. If you didn't get vacation insurance, it is.

Personal responsibility is something I am seeing less of these days.. which is really sad. If you do something, right or wrong, you should have the balls to own it, and be responsible for the after effects, good or bad.

I tend to go too far with it and think 'well, they wouldn't have done that if I hadn't have done this, so really it's my fault in the end'. >.>

It depends.

No one has a definitive standard for what this means. We also have personal ones. Sometimes they jibe with a lot of people and sometimes they don't.

So if you are asking me about mine, then the answer is I believe in it totally, but does what I call my personal responsibility jibe with what someone else may consider as my responsibility? And if it doesn't what does that mean, and I still conducting myself in a personally responsible manner?

Sometimes the twain do not meet.

So like almost every other question, the answer is "it depends."

I am regularly engaged in looking at/for the thoughts that block my ability to accept personal responsibilities, because not doing this is the cause of so many problems. Since I have begun doing this, a lot of pain has been averted.
I am learning about life and relationships, and trying to accept it all as is.
I make many mistakes, but there has been huge improvement as far as feeling less upset and at odds.
There is much peace in being way tougher on myself than on others.
Concentrating on which part I'm responsible for, and leaving the rest to others frees up my head to be more positive. Goals, not perfection. : )

I'm the only one I hold resposible for the things I say and do - I'm the only one that has control of myself. I've also had to accept that I cannot control anyone else, no matter how much I want to.

In my opinion a person who is not willing to take personal responsibility for his/her action equals having no morals.

Also...

"I will accept the rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."
