LJ has helped me clear my head. I can sit and start typing without a clue what I'm going to say. But somehow my real thoughts and feelngs appear on the page
I'm more open about talking about my life. It used to be I felt so insecure about sharing. But now, it's almost natural to just sit, talk and spill... Ahaha... :)
Some of the effects that livejournal have had on me has been negative. Surrounded by multiple people having issues and drama and bad days and I think on some days dragged me down.
But it has also allowed me to open up and say what is on my mind.
Before LJ I was always tired, listless, manic depressed, impotent, rageful, aimless, forgetful and irregular. Since using LJ as an important part of a balanced day, I am all those other things, but I can poop on schedule once again! I. Am. Blessed! Thank you Live Journal!
it forces me to journal regularly. a great thing for making sure I have the keepsake stuff for my kids that I want.
it's also taught me a lot about the way I used to parent and the way I want to parent. I would never have been exposed to the theories in my real life.
Honestly, it's brought me out of some major depressions, enhanced my social life, made me realize people can be nice and good (like you! *hugs!*), brought me back in touch with long lost friends, given me a place to vent instead of repressing, and given me views into cultures, people, views, philosophies, and lives that I would have never come across otherwise. I really enjoy reading about people's lives, even though when I started my blog I was like who would want to read about my life? Heh.
Is that deep enough? lol I'll probably think of more as the day goes on. :)
- I've learned to be a better communicator and chose my words with care. (Write what you mean AND mean what you write!) - Mentally, I'm a stronger person. - I'm more organized than I thought I'd ever be. - I've managed to find health issue patterns because I've been documenting when my health takes a bad turn. - Fangirling has been taken to new levels. ;) - I wouldn't keep a paper journal updated like I do LJ. - I have a plethora of new vocabulary words. Complete with UK spellings! ;) - My idea, thoughts, beliefs and comfort zone(s) are frequently challenged and expanded upon.
Well it is a great place for me to keep track the distance between lupus flares so when my doc asks me, I have dates and degrees of pain etc. It has also been a place for me to work things out of my head rather then carrying them around with me to fester.
It's helped me know myself better. Also interacting with others from around the world has helped me see different world views and very different approaches to problems I have run into. all good for new ideas.
releasing the demons has been extremely helpful and cheap. LOL. I mean had I been sitting on a couch telling the person with a degree and pen/paper in hand the issues, can you imagine the cost of those sessions?
My icon says it all - I spill whatever's on my mind and at the least, get it off my chest. I get a lot of helpful feedback if that's what I need and just a "hey, sorry you're feeling that way, here's a *hug*" if that's all I'm needing.
I've met many friends who have come and gone and come back again in my life on here. It also helps me vent my frustrations especially about men lol. It is basically my virtual therapy. Plus sometimes I get good ideas and advice on here!
Comments on my poems, even ones that are completely bullshit (example: a poem I once wrote as an experiment called "Rotten Thoughts" that was entirely formed of all the grotesque, taboo terms I could think of and people called it "beautiful" and "inspired"), have helped raise my confidence in writing, and where they have failed to do that, they have at least encouraged me to write more tripe, more frequently. On top of that, there has been much inspiration from other writers.
Well, I know you said "aside from the people".. but I have to say that considering I met one of my closest friends off LJ as well as my wonderful roommate from all of last year in DC, I must give LJ props for that.
Now to really answer, the fact that I have a nearly complete record of my life for the last 5+ years is incredible. You can't predict the future, but when you can go back into the past and detect threads and trends and such... it's nice :)

Date: 2008-09-12 03:35 pm (UTC)My self esteem has been bolstered and I've learned a lot.
About myself and people.
And yes there is good and bad, but it's all learning and it has all helped me grow.
Also I have a greater opportunity to "leave it better than I found it."
