Ignore "obligations" to others. Most of them are BS, and will nibble away at the precious minutes of your life till none are left, then will yell for more.
Prioritize. Do the most important thing first. Learn to multitask while still being thorough. I'm very good with time management and very good at giving more than one thing attention at the same time.
Delegate what I can to whoever I can foist things off on. Try to mix up the rest - some enjoyable, some not so enjoyable, and whatever doesn't get done will just have to keep! *grin*
Prioritize. Make a to-do list with the stuff you have to get done. When you finish it, make sure to cross it off the list, it feels kind of good to cross stuff off the to-do list. And, if all else fails, take a quick walk around the office or outside, take a breath and dive right back in. :)
As soon as I'm done with something, I put it away. It prevents junk piles, and that means less cleaning.
I also chip away at little stuff first whenever and wherever possible; that way when the longer projects begin, I'm not scattered on all the small things I still have to do.
I do my best to prioritize...if everything needs it at the same time..I do my least favorite first and work from there...that way as I work through things...I get happier.
Remove as many distractions as possible. Everything around you may be saying "I'm most important!! Me! Me!" but you have to decide what truly is the one thing that MUST be accomplished today...that is what you finish first. Then move on to the next important thing.
Multitasking leads to stress and things not being done as well. Ironically it also leads to costing you more time than if you focus fully on one task at a time.
And finally, http://zenhabits.net/ this guy has some of the best ideas and tips I have ever found. I love what he has to say. You can subscribe to the blog to show up in your email every morning.
Lists are your friend. I also set small, managable goals throughout the day for myself. That way things get done, I can check to see if I'm on track, and I can correct/address things quickly.
I'm an insomniac...I get more done before nine a.m then most people do all day. My tip, just don't sleep lol. Or watch Martha Stewart, she's so organized!!
