And yeah... Testimonials too...

I'm trying very hard not to laugh...

The thing that bothers me is that their list of symptoms of demonic possession is pretty much exactly a list of symptoms of schizophrenia, and instead of encouraging people to speak to their doctors, they're encouraging them to hand over the 15 grand instead. It's sad, really. Taking advantage of the stupid is one thing; taking advantage of the ill is quite another.

I knew of a psychiatrist who was so convinced that people were Satanic Cult victims and had Multiple Personality Disorder that he actually created some false memories in people through his hypnosis treatments. He even ordered a couple of exorcisms to take place in a psych hospital. That was one disturbed doctor.

But people suck. Take this (http://community.livejournal.com/cf_abby_tribute/138558.html#cutid1) for example.

We think of private consultations as a low risk, low cost way to figure some important questions out before bringing us on site in person. Questions like…

Do you really have a problem involving demonic attack, possession, ghosts…or are you just making it up?
If the problem involves a friend or family member, what be done about it?
Do you think we would be a good fit to work together? If so, how might that happen?
Could you maybe do some things to solve the situation on your own? (And wouldn’t it be great to have an expert monitor things while you try!)

Private consultations are provided over the phone and last about 45 - 50 minutes. When you request a consultation we will get back to you with a list of times we are available. When you book your time slot we will also ask you for a phone number we can reach you at.

Investment: $250

Ooooh!!!

*snicker*

Some people are just too gullible.

If it is a legitimate demonic possession (as opposed to a mental illness) the Catholic Church will do it for free ;) and I think they have a bit more experience behind them ;)

The only way I'm shelling out 15 grand for an exorcism is if Dean Winchester is the one who shows up at my house. And since I've paid for him, I expect to get to keep him. *nods*

Why yes, I am a fangirl geek :D Does it show ;)

The reason people like this can get away with charging for ridiculous rituals such as this can be summed up in what one man said many, many years ago:

"There's a sucker born every minute." - P.T. Barnum

Well in all seriousness it's a serious business for the Church. Of course the new Pope is training many more priests for the work than ever before but it is still a very difficult culling process to get through for the actual ritual. Most cases are found to be organic in nature and never make it to the exorcism stage.

There have always been strange people.... and those who let themselves to be fooled. And I think it will always be the same, at least in the nearest future, only the ways of fooling people will change. ;)
