Question of the Day
Jan. 7th, 2009 11:01 amIf you had the money, would you buy Livejournal inc? If you did, what would you do with it?
Hell yeah! And I'd push for a little more smoothness in how the system operates rather than add shiny new features.

Date: 2009-01-07 12:48 pm (UTC)I don't like the ads, but then I never have to see them because I bought my first paid account before they were introduced and have since bought a permanent account.
The Ads do at least help pay to keep LJ running. I think the idea that only the free accounts get to see them is a good idea, thus giving more benefit to those that chose pay.

Date: 2009-01-07 05:32 pm (UTC)So I can't consider it something you can just as easily do in a paper journal. First, everything is in type so it can be more easily distributed. Second, the whole date and time feature, while it might not seem like a big deal, the fact that it keeps track of that for you easily probably saved large amounts of time and effort over the years.
Now if I had the money, I can't say either whether I would buy it outright. I mean I love LJ, so maybe I'd consider helping them hire all those people back and encourage them to make better decisions. But I know nothing of being incharge.
Plus, there are so many other things to spend money on- like art supplies and books. :P

Date: 2009-01-08 03:39 am (UTC)All I personally said was I would never use the money to buy LJ because I can think of many other things that deserve that money. In my previous response that money should go to people in dire need.

Date: 2009-01-07 01:31 pm (UTC)However if it was a buy LJ or nothing.... eh I'm still not sure I would buy it because I don't know that I would want the responsibility. I love it, and been a member for eons, but to actually own it and run it... that's not really my cuppa tea.
If I did own it, (must have happened through inheritence) I would sell it or donate it to someone who could nurture it and give it the attention it needed.

Date: 2009-01-07 05:10 pm (UTC)I'd get a nice house somewhere quiet and warm, take Dave to Graceland, buy a King Charles Spaniel puppy, put enough in the kitty to finish qualifying and set up a psych practice, plus be able to get some regular reki and massage to treat the M.E.
Then, maybe I could buy LJ and hire enough people to run it without me if there was enough left over :o)

Date: 2009-01-07 05:15 pm (UTC)Livejournal is a place for people who like to read and write. It's not the place for lots of annoying bling and 5 billion stupiod "applications".
