My journal's colors mysteriously changed to "default" last night. I've tried to manually fix it, but it didn't work. Hep me! If you can, that is. Yours is still fine, but mine changed, which I don't understand. Hm.
I'm sorry, I just feel that everyone's complete verbalized disdain of the man is disrespectful. He didn't throw this country down the toilet by himself, yet he's the only one blamed for it. Yeah, he's not a great speaker, lets take him out back and shoot him. Every president has had their shortcomings, but none have taken the heat for them like Bush II.
I can't wait to see Obama fuck up...lets see what everyone says then. And no, I'm NOT a Republican.
Every president has had their shortcomings, but none have taken the heat for them like Bush II.
That statement is incorrect. I can name a few just off the top of my head:
Lyndon Baines Johnson for Vietnam Richard Millhouse Nixon for Watergate Gerald Ford for pardoning Nixon Jimmy Carter for the gas shortage crisis and the Iran hostage crisis
I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that stand out for me.
I can't wait to see Obama fuck up...lets see what everyone says then.
I'd rather NOT see Obama fuck up merely for the sake of having those who didn't support him say, "See! Told you so!"
Obama "fucking up" means we the people will pay for it. No thanks, I'd rather see recovery than any further erosion of the economy. I'd rather see people moving toward getting back on their feet than landing on their asses again. To wish this president to "fuck up" merely for the sake of getting to say "I told you so" is just as mean spirited as those you are chastising in your comment. That, my dear, is even more disrespectful than verbalized disdain for the outgoing administration.
And no, I'm NOT a Republican.
I don't espouse in lock step to either party's line. I'm an American, first and foremost, and as an American, I find it highly offensive that you would wish further suffering for your fellow citizens just so you can "have the last laugh".
Do people realize just how ignorant they sound? To sit here and blame just ONE MAN for every problem we have? For just one example, the issue with the fanny mae's and what not that actually impacted the market situation was something that was caused by Clinton! That was like eon's ago.
No one you get in there will be perfect, man is not perfect. And there is more responsible for our problems then one person. But it is so easy to say this guy is the reason, and that guy is the reason, but never me. No, never me.
I wonder, how long will be love Obama after he is done with this ridiculous tax hike on ammunition and firearms? Our own constitution says we should be able to bear firearms and it will cost nearly $40 a box for ammunition when he done. I go to the stores and they are sold out, gun shows are packed with hundreds of people stocking up in ammo because of this huge tax increase. Why? Why hunters and recreational sportsmen? Why not liqour and tobacco, or luxury items only the wealthy buy?
This man WILL make mistakes, and in 4 - 8 years, we are going to say bad obama good whoever is next. It is what we do. And it takes more than 4 years to see the financial chaos a president causes, so we will re-elect him in 4 years. A lot of the problems we had DURING the Bush campaign was a trickling effect from Clinton. And take this from someone that understands the market situation. My whole family works in the brokerage houses, so my info is not completley ignorant.
The day he went in and got that bastard Saddam Hussein. Best money spent..EVAH!
The day he sat there and said we would not be afraid of terrorists.
And finally, the day he released those border patrol agents for that murder on the border. Vigilante murder or whatever. I hope Obama does the right thing and actually PARDONS them.
These were silver lining in his otherwise screwed up campaign.
I actually quite like the man, politics aside, I think he's quite amusing.
Plus that thing about 'fool me once, shame on...shame on you. fool me...can't get fooled again!". I just really liked his speeches. And I'm not being sarcastic.
I'm afraid that I must respectfully disagree. His presidency has been more damaging to the country than any other. He started wars that turned into quagmires while simultaneously alienating some of our close allies. During the Katrina catastrophe, rather than activating the national guard units in the surrounding states to help the victims, he waited for the governors to ask for help. And don't get me started on the gas prices.
When Obama fucks up - and I say that because all presidents fuck something up - I'll bet he'll have much better spin doctoring than Dubya ever had, and I'll bet it won't be as damaging to the nation's morale. And, yes, I AM a Republican.
I understand he made errors. But he catches a lot of heat for errors made by Clinton, as Obama will catch heat for errors made by Bush. It is an ongoing battle. And of course, there are news flashes about gas prices going back up, so...we cannot blame Bush now, so why is Obama causing this issue? See?
Katrina was bad. Very bad.
And as far as war is concerned, we have been there too long. But I support going there from day one. So no matter what anyone says, I have to say we both get our opinions. I wanted Saddam dead, so I got exactly what I wanted!
Now if Obama has balls, he will FIND a way to get Bin Laden and kill him too! THEN! I will love the man...
That statement was my opinion. I'm sorry if you felt my opinion was incorrect. I know what past presidents have been blamed for and what was actually their fault, but none have had the ridicule placed on them that G.W. Bush has. Vietnam wasn't Johnson's fault, but he took the fall for it. Watergate was all Nixon. Ford did what he felt was the right thing to do, other than that he was a pretty damn good president. Carter? Geez, the president doesn't control gas prices, does he? How would any other president handle an international hostage situation? Lets go in with guns blazing. I too wish for Obama to succeed, because if he fails that would mean that the life I have have struggled to keep afloat would further sink, I WANT him to succeed. I'm not trying for any 'last laugh', I'm just sick of the disrepect I read in so many journals. But when and if the shoe is on the other foot, I want to see what everyone has to say then.
While your answer is priceless (and I have argued that he has kept this economy going with all those little Bush sayings calendars they make from all the weird things he says) I must say that I have to agree with many of the people who have left comments here already. He has done a lot of good, it's just mostly overlooked because people feel the need to constantly criticize him. A lot of problems finally were visible from Clinton, and Bush just did his best to fix them. All in all, he has done his job and been pretty amusing while doing so.
The president of the United States has no clear constitutional authority to declare war without congressional approval. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has determined that the president, as commander-in-chief of the military, does have the authority to recognize a "state of war" initiated against the United States and may in these circumstances unilaterally send U.S. troops into battle.
What would anyone else have done, if sitting in the same seat, and some religious militant faction began bombing us and flying our own private citizen loaded planes into our civilians, into the ground, into our businesses, into our government buildings? I guess he should have just sat on his hands. I don't know what I would have done...maybe the same thing. Has it worked? Not very well. We've lost more of our citizens, some were friends of mine. Do I think the war was a mistake? Yes, in some ways. He had some very tough choices to make, and he AND Congress AND the UN made the choices they thought were right at the time. My point is, he didn't screw up this country all by himself.
Every president has had their shortcomings, but none have taken the heat for them like Bush II.
And I corrected you, stating that other past presidents have taken just as much heat for the failures and mistakes that occurred during their respective administrations, whether they were responsible for them or not or could control them or not. The current mortgage crisis didn't begin manifesting itself under either one of Bush's terms, but he has taken the heat for it, just like presidents before him have taken the heat for fiscal mismanagements that came to a head under their administrations. Bush doesn't control the oil prices, but he's taken the heat for it, just like Carter took it for the gas prices. Bush didn't cause the animosity and hatred that has built up the Middle East for this country for decades, yet he has taken the heat for 9/11 and all decisions that followed it, just like Johnson took the heat for Vietnam.
Oh, and by the way, Carter did attempt a rescue mission ( "going in guns blazing") during the Iran hostage crisis. Operation Eagle Claw (http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/apjinternational/apj-s/2006/3tri06/kampseng.html) ended in disaster. Even though Carter had no control over the events that took place in the desert, he still took the brunt of the blame for its failure.
That's what happens with just about all presidents. They will take the heat for every single failure during their administration, whether they are to blame for it or not, whether the beginnings of such failures manifested themselves under their administrations or not. Hence the saying, "Heavy is the head that wears the crown".
One thing that's beautiful about this country is our right to free speech and our right to speak about our government officials without fear of reprisal. We may not all agree on how we feel about these officials, but we are free to say so regardless. However, wishing continued failure, whether you are hoping for the opposite or not, just to hear what the other side would say is ludicrous and downright mean spirited, IMHO. I have seen too many people lose too much already. To even think about them losing more just so someone can see what the other side says makes me sick to my stomach...literally.
Out of everyone's comments, this is the most intelligent one. Even over my own, and everybody always thinks that their own is the right way, you know? I wish everyone thought the way you do. Bashing people with forgetting the good is mean and stuipd. Congratulating a person without correcting them is naive.
When you leave an office of power, like Bush did. People tend to focus on the bad things that happened during the time he served, and not the good things.
He did have a lot of power, but he couldn't do everything without the US Congress agreeing on it.
At the top, there will be decisions that people will hate you for.
Getting...

God bless and take care. :).
