What are some of the things that attract you to new bloggers / LJ'ers?

A well written profile, membership of certain communities, a real photo of them... :D

Somebody who appears nice and polite. I have no tolerance for mean poopheads.

1. I have to believe they're a real person and/or actually have reasons for the things in their profile. (You know the people who have loads of spiritual new age stuff and say they're a reincarnation of a dove and that kind of thing?)
2. I freely admit that I'm more likely to pay attention to someone who's either closer to my age (though older has a wider range than younger - teenagers are not often fun to read) or has similar interests.
3. (It's me, remember?) Anyone who pays attention to me first, for almost any reason.

Accents...definitely accents. ;) And some common interests of course. People who seem to put thought into most of what they write (Though we're all guilty of those silly quizzes and such).

I don't much care about their looks, or how "well" they write, or which communities they have joined. It has to do with their approach, and a curious vibe. Friends of friends are always welcomed!

They make an attempt by saying hi. Sometimes, it has to do with similar interests or someone I know recommend them or I like their take on things.

Someone who is polite, well-written, and perhaps even a little sarcastic. Higher levels of education are certainly a draw. Nature spirituality, particularly Druidism - especially someone else going through OBOD. Fellow folklorists are always welcome. Other fox people, too.

But, the truth is that I'll pretty much friend almost anyone back who leaves me a comment stating their intentions and friends me first. I'm totally a cheap LJ whore in that way. Of course, recommendations certainly never hurt.

(I'm sad to say that I rarely have the guts these days to do the friending first. I've seen a few people around I would like to friend, but I am too much of a coward to make that first contact, because rejection sucks and I'm not that great at it.)

Edited for one singular lousy grammar error. I'm nuts like that.)

as for me, it depends. Someone who seems to be honest and interested in actually making friends .. REAL friends, to connect with instead of just in collecting numbers. What I'm looking for are people I can listen to, get to know, share and grow with (corny sounding I know) If someone is gonna be reading my thoughts, my feelings, my emotions, my frustrations, my happiness.. I want it to be because they are interested in getting to know each other..

And these days.. knowing someone that I know already helps since I've been burned a few times with friending people. At least if we have someone in common, I can find out first if that person is a backstabbing type or not.

It is very, very rare that I will be attracted to someone to add to my flist. These days if I don't know the person from some other venue it is unlikely I will add them back should they add me, and my default reading list does not contain everyone on my flist to begin with. As time goes on my default reading list becomes smaller and smaller.

However these days usually the thing that will make me at least willing to look is their level of introversion. I don't have the energy to spare for extroverts.

I do not add people that speak in chatspeak of any kind. I avoid people who go out of their way to use LJ strictly as a political soapbox. And I tend to shy away from the overtly religious, unless it's not a big feature in their LJ. While I have no problem with people believing as they like, I certainly don't want to read about it.

Also, I have no use for social conservatives (fiscal ones are fine, even if I disagree. But socially conservative, "traditional" people are not going to find any common ground with me.
