I'm in one of those difficult moments in relationship right now. My husband of 35 years has had a PTSD flare up and stated that he would like a "do over" of the last 35 years....without wife or relationship or any of those responsibilities! Obviously, the irrationality of this was pointed out to him, but he is hanging onto the fantasy of a girl he knew 40 years ago.
Persistence is the big one. Compassion, yes...for myself as well as him. And not enabling his worse impulses at this time. He may well crash his life...and mine. But it won't be for lack of effort on my part.
