Build the house of your mind
make it a labour of love
but make sure each brick
is bright and solid
but devoid of thought
or emotion
For only the absence of thought
can separate thoughts

Build it with many rooms
each can be decorated
to match the memories
the stories
the dreams
or the mood
Make each room
markedly different
To contain different thoughts

Build it with a basement
For your subconscious to reside in
to be opened only when armoured
in the protective suit of logic
and ready to hear your own worst judge
But fill it with light
whatever light you choose
For the subconscious will produce
Only what it sees

Build it with a comfortable study
to house your creativity
put it next door
to the room with a view
to the outside
and let your muse
enter there at will
So that you can hear her whispers
When you wish to create

Build at the front a padded room
for your incomplete thoughts
to wage their wars
and listen in occasionally
for the clearest sweet cry
of a freshly born concept
and swiftly take it
to be cared for by its peers
in the right room

And finally build an attic
bright and airy
for the thoughts you need not dwell on
and the demons locked in boxes
for in the light of life
the demons will not survive
and far away from the basement
they cannot wake the beast
and cannot harm the house

Build the house of your mind
and visit it daily
making sure the rooms are locked
and the guards of logic walk the halls
But once a week take the time
and clean the home you carry with you
send things to the attic as needed
and maybe you will find answers within
To the questions that have been troubling

For the time you spend in your own mind
will give you the strength to be
the complete person
your better dreams have envisaged
