Dishonesty through omission. I CANT STAND THAT!!!!! I hate it when people leave parts of the story out to "spare someone's feelings" when it's something they have done that would obviously hurt another. That is trying to spare THEIR feelings because they knew the person wouldnt be happy with them about it! That's cowardly and weak! I guess any sort of dishonesty or cowardice really bothers me.
I know that we don't know each other from dust, but respectfully, I must disagree. There are times when an omission is a healthier choice than the truth. Would you sooner tell a mother that her son's last moments after being struck by a car were minutes of him holding onto his own entrails while screaming for her through a half removed jaw before mercifully being run down by a passing truck, or would you tell her, "it was quick"? Would you really subject the mother to something that horrific if you didn't need to?
Ironically, truth (in truth) can be cruel.
As far as telling a friend that they screwed up or are screwing up royally, it can be done without rubbing anyone's nose in it. I had to do it this weekend in fact. The head of an organization that I'm part of said things that scared his staff. It left him wondering why they were keeping things from him. I had to remind him of what he told them. In the end, he got hip and wound up thanking us all for a job well done.
Anyway, I sincerely hope that I haven't angered you with this opposing viewpoint. =)
You have, of course, not angered me! I am always up for a peaceful debate! :)
I am going to ammend my stance yet stay true to it's essence. When one is ommitting bits of a conversation to protect themselves from deserved consequence, I think it is wrong. Of course, something as relative as right and wrong gives rise to another debate entirely.
Your self admitted "horrific" example is, by all means, an exception! I would no sooner relay the details of such an occurance to someone than I would strangle a puppy!
*Shakes head to get image out of mind...* OK.. I am better now! :)
Ah! I see now! Yeah, omission to duck righteous wrath is pretty chicken-shit. I agree with you. Guys are heartier than that and they should suck it up. In fact, those that don't have no balls and are only nominally men. Hell, we were designed with abuse in mind! If you fuck up, then you own up. That's a real man's way.
Yeah, I learned the horror from a friend of mine who runs tabletop RPG's. He's a master of horror. He would run games so creepy that I didn't want to look behind me!
No puppy strangling! Puppies are cute! Until they start chewing your stereo equipment and taking a dump on your bed, the bastards. (I'm a cat person. ^_^)
