I would like to believe I would die or kill for my child/children. But you know what? I value life so much I have trouble with dying and killing. I guess the only way I will know the true answer to this question is if I am put in this terrible situation and I hope I never am.
Oooh! New journal colour scheme! I prefer this one a lot more.
AH yes, the question. Very boring answer, sadly. My mum, gran, and cat (otherwise known as family). Certain selected friends. Maybe some beliefs, but it's too early in the morning to decide which. BORING.
To me dieing and killing are very very different. I would sooner die for, say a family member, than I would kill someone in their defense. But to answer the question.. family.. very good friends.. my beliefs and freedom and of course... cheesecake!
I'd kill to protect my property from invasion. If I absolutely had to, I'd kill men, women and children to prevent someone from using or covertly gaining a nuclear, biological or chemical weapon. I wouldn't like it, but if, at the end of the day, I knew I saved more lives than I killed, I'd sleep well enough. I'd even kill my closest friend over NBC's.
I'd also happily die to prevent such a catastrophe. I would never begrudge a someone's killing me if my death saved hundreds, thousands of even millions from premeditated murder. I'd die to keep family and friends alive.
I hope that I never have to do either, but like Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2: "there's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, 'tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the readiness is all."
To die for: Theoretically, my children (assuming I have any, as planned) and my faith. Should I come to such a pass, these are the two things that I hope I would be able to die for.
To kill for: My life and the safety of my loved ones. Those are really the only things that I can say unconditionally that I would kill for. Anything else, I would have to think about it, and it would probably depend on circumstances.
