Not everyone does (desire power) in my opinion.

But I think for those that do, it gives them a false sense of worth, of meaning and counting for something, of leaving their mark, of feeling immortal and not so human and therefore not so fragile. It makes them feel as if they have security but in the same breath it makes them paranoid that they will lose it as quickly. But like everything else that people crave, it will never be enough once a person gets a taste of it.

A very great answer...

And yes, I agree, ultimately, it's an addiction, and if you've never tasted it, how can you crave it?

I think because they want the respect that comes with it. They need that respect -- from other people. They are probably still concerned with what other people think of them and want people to respect and fear them and figure the only way to acheive that is with mucho power. What they should really be concerned with is respecting themselves and not worrying about what other people think, but they don't know how to do that or are too afraid to try.

To have peace, you have to have war.

its nature. its how everyone has survived. if you think about it, its the strongest animals that get the food, that catch it. the rest fall behind and get killed by other animals. and well, its kinda that way with human life too, those that make it far have more control over others and thats probably why theres fighting and war, because its in our nature and we all want to be on top. otherwise there would be no need and we would always be at peace. if there wasnt war and stuff, we would be really over populated, just like animal populations and a lot more diseases and stuff. if you look at larger animal populations, those that are having problems with illnesses and stuff, are especially the larger ones that are over populated. natures way of thinning out the pack. idk. i come from a hunting background. i dont hunt, but thats how it was explained to me, why hunting is good....

true they dont hunt their own kind, but they do fight with their own kind, leaving them injured or dead at times to move up in the ranks of the pack.

So they can sleep in every morning.

At least that's what I would do with power.

Other people seem to think it has something to do with....actually doing stuff. *shrug*

We start our lives utterly powerless.
Little better than quadriplegics, we have no control over our limbs - we cannot even roll over. We rely upon others for all our needs - warmth, sustenance, and even basic positioning.
Our early years are all about gaining control.
We strive to gain control over our own lives - our bodies, our behavior, and our decisions.
It seems only natural that people who spend the better part of all of their energy pursuing "control" for their formative years find themselves wishing to continue that drive once they have achieved control over themselves and their own lives then take the next step and pursue control over others.
Hence the drive for "power"... which is really the ability to be in control.

Just my brief, initial thoughts on it.

i don't have the power to tell you:P

but too much power is no good and with power come resposibilities and if you can't handel them...there goes the easy life...not to say that most people that have power want more and that ruins them..

it's good to have power, but not more than you can handel...
