It depends on relation to what we're talking about. If it's something like finance and livelyhood of some versus socialized healthcare than I'd say screw the doctors and their salaries socialized healthcare all the way... The flip side of that is Canada has a harder time educating and keeping doctors because their potential to earn money is curtailed.
The needs would dictate what type of answer I were to give you.
With respect, serving only the greater good ultimately only deminishes the self. Would you possibly consider that a balance between the needs of the many and the few might be the healthiest option?
as far as actual needs go, the many always outweighs the few. wants, desires, and the like are an individual thing and can be justified or rationalized however one would like. but as far as needs, many always holds the trump.
i'm not saying i'd be thrilled to do it or anything, but you know, fate of the world and such. although, at the rate i'm going in my ever-increasing hatred of people, i may just change my mind on the subject within the next ten years.
And yet there are exceptions. How often have people colluded for surprise parties because someone who's good is feeling low? How often have people gathered and shelled out for bachelor parties because the groom to be needs a boost in his confidence? How often has the hat been passed around because someone's had a loss in their life? What about when hundreds of people from all over a nation rally around a child who's trapped in a well? Many or few, I think all things must be looked at case by case. Neither the many nor the few do not nor will not ever hold the monopoly on need.
