What is one thing you have to do regularly that fills you with dread?

I'm surprisingly functional when in Work Mode. I walk into crowded rooms, talk to people, initiate telephone conversations... all good. Apparently I need a set script to quell the horrors.

Working from home doesn't work so well for me. Or rather, I don't work so well from home. Lack of scripting is the issue, I suspect.

What do you do anyway? It seems to be in the Geek field from what I've read :)

My job title is either Computer and Network Technician or Network Specialist, depending on the printed material. Basically I'm a geek-for-hire who mostly goes to small businesses and makes their computers and network behave properly. (Where "properly" means "as the user expects them to behave." This means I'm educating the users about what they should expect and how not to break the freaking computer/network again while I'm fixing the computer/network.)

We've got a few contract customers with whom I work closely, and other customers of varying regularity.

Very similar to what I do then, but I'm tied to just the one company...

Yep, we're mostly for companies too small to afford in-house tech support of more than the "hey, how do I make Excel add numbers" variety.

Sounds like you'd get some good variety of work though :)

That's the great part of the job. I'm getting a really wide range of experience, both with "networks which were set up mostly the right way" and "what the fucking byzantine hell happened HERE??" Seeing both is really helping with knowing what "the right way" looks like.

When I started my current job a year or so ago, it was definitely a case of "what the fucking byzantine hell happened HERE??"

LMAO!
