I forgot you're a limey Brit. Damn Dirty Brits not understanding American pop culture references. ;)

Rapper Flavor Flav finds love ala reality TV (and it's got to be the money cause the guy is crazy, yo).

But reality shows are a good example of money buying love. For example, working relationships have come out of tv show like The Bachelor, where a regular guy pretends to be a millionaire in order to woo 30 women competeing for his love, only to have the woman he chooses find out it's all a gag and he's really poor. Now, the women who choose to stay with the broke, fake millonaire obviously stay because there's something real to the relationship, but they never would have fallen for him in the first place if they hadn't been lured in, and wooed by, the money. The poor guy would have never had a chance with these women.

So, I would say money can buy love, but I would doubt it can maintain it.

Flavor Flav... Ok, yeah, I've heard about that show... And it just points to the things people will do for money LOL!

Limey? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

You should meet [livejournal.com profile] crescent_fresh :P

And just one thing, an opinion on that last line...

Money can buy you a date, even a relationship based on superficial things, and it can easily, in vulgar or not so vulgar means, buy you sex... But love? (twue wuv?) No, it can't buy that, not even for a moment....

Yep, Limey, Brit, and incurable romantic :D

Is [livejournal.com profile] cresent_fresh limey, too?

Twue wuv? heeheeheehee! You just induced your intended Princess Bride flashback.

As for money buying love, for you or me, or any self-actualized person, it is easy to say money can't buy love, but there are many people who have little sense of self, many people who lack depth, for which that statement might not be true. After all, the majority of all people who are getting married would tell you it's true love, yet half of those marriages (in US and UK) still end in divorce.

Now, if you look at divorce statistics "money" is always listed as the number one or number two reason couples fight. So a logical conclusion would be that if money can destroy love, it can also create it.

Also, if we go back to the self-aculazation aspect, there is also the possibility of "buying love". If you take someone with little sense of self and little depth, they may indeed fall in love with someone because of the material comfort they provide. This love may be the deepest love they ever know, so who is to say it is not "true" love? It may not be true love in the eyes of you or me, but what if it is to that person? Is not true love subjective? Doesn't it depend on each specific person? And if true love to one person is finding some one who can provide them with material comforts as well as emotional comfort does not love then become a actualization commodity?

Naah, he's just the only other person who calls me a Limey :P

And you got to love the Princess Bride!

If a relationship starts based on money, then the love that exists is for the money, and not for the person...

Love is much deeper than that. I would say that there are many relationships out there that come together and fall apart where the couple have never truly been in love, or the love was one way...

True love isn't calculated, it just happens... The types of relationships you've mentioned are more about compatibility than romance... One gets emotional / physical support from the other, for providing financial stability.

As I say, I'm just an old fashioned romantic, and love is something that you see in the eyes of another... When you're both broke, it's cold, and you have nowhere to go, and very little to eat, and you look into each other's eyes and you KNOW that you will work on it together... and you KNOW that the other truly loves you, and truly cares... That is something nothing can buy... And it's also something that, if you had all the money in the world, you would gladly give it away for...

:D
