I used to think that I wasn't free to be me. . .but I learned that the only person that really had the power to keep me from being myself was me.
It didn't matter what the actions were on another's behalf - concerning my freedom.
It only mattered whether I had the courage to BE myself despite what ever REACTION I might receive.
So. . .my voice is mine, and has been since I found that courage. . .and as you know I will be the first to tell someone that they are communicating in a way that prevents my voice from being heard. (Interrupting, assuming, patronizing, speaking over me . . .etc) They don't have to listen to me, but I don't have to choose them to be in my company, either.
Lordy, how many years it took for me to get there. Having been on both sides of the scenario it was especially difficult correcting my communication methods.
I think I am given a lot of freedom because I have a good supportive family who backs me while I try and figure out who I am and what makes me tick. So yes, yes I am.
I feel I am free to be me. Granted there are times at work when I really want to tell a customer a piece of my mind, but I can't. But either than that, yes I'd have to say I am free to be me :)
no, not entirely; who is? but we find our way along our Paths, I think, hopefully not losing too much of ourselves. Do you know that old children's poem, Ayoub - Robert Louis Stevenson - it starts something like 'when I am grown, I'll wear a big hat' and ends 'and no-one will guess that I'm really myself inside' Its a sort of mantra for me; because we all wear certain roles and the good place is where we can be us, inside, even though with our nearest and dearest we need to wear a role of some kind. love and blessed be xxx
A good question. Like you have said before I am Dan, not the various LJ-handles I have had in the past. That said, I am free to be me but also know that certain situations, work for one, require me to throttle back on the zany wonkiness and be more professional. I could not tell you from a relationship standpoint as I managed to poison all of those before they had a chance to truly grow.
I just recently wrote a poem about that, actually.
Childe of Loki
Say your short hello to me The me that always seems To be smiling from the shadows Where reality is breached For I am the one who calls Upon the dreams from which we fly As I drink from this bent cup of life I may spill a little wine You see I am the one you envy Chew your lips as I pass by Disapproved and oft' confused For imagined tricks of light I am the wind gone through your head Preconceptions swept aside For deny my pride, deny my thoughts And the truth you'll never find That I'm the man who rules the world In such freedom do I reside.

The me that always seems
To be smiling from the shadows
Where reality is breached
For I am the one who calls
Upon the dreams from which we fly
As I drink from this bent cup of life
I may spill a little wine
You see I am the one you envy
Chew your lips as I pass by
Disapproved and oft' confused
For imagined tricks of light
I am the wind gone through your head
Preconceptions swept aside
For deny my pride, deny my thoughts
And the truth you'll never find
That I'm the man who rules the world
In such freedom do I reside.
And that is sort of what it's about.
