Physically: I worked for a floral shop during Valentine's week. I would come home and be so exhausted and my hands would be so swollen that I would just sit on the bed and cry - then I'd pick myself put and go back to work. They gave me an excellent recommend to my next job - saying they never saw someone work so hard in their life.
Mentally- Memorial Hospital - hands down. I hit the desk running every single day, and did some amazing things for them. When I go there to visit they always always ask me when I'm coming back.
I did a temp job at a flower shop to help them catch up on orders for Christmas. You wouldn't think it would be so tiring working with flowers all day - but it can be! A friend worked at a different shop full time. She dreaded Valentine's Day.
I was a communications intern at Watkins Glen International Racetrack. During the week I edited souvenir programs and transcribed driver interviews for print.
But on race days - eleventy hundred projects at once! Driver interviews, press kits, press releases, race updates for the press, statistical information generated constantly. Everything was SO time-sensitive and intense. And yanno, there's a constant excitement as 40 cars are zipping around a course.
Physically? It wasn't a paying job, but I worked my ass off while volunteering at Rancho de los Animales. It was a ranch for disabled kids. Grooming horses, cleaning stalls, doing trail rides, feeding stock, packing lunches, etc. I loved it. :)
Mentally? Working for my Dad building and servicing computers. He'd make me figure out things by myself unless it was getting down to crunch time when the people were picking their machine up. I had to beat my head against the desk so many times. :)
I've never thought of it that way. I work for me, for my welfare and to my standards. The more I've loved what I do the harder I work, though hard is not the word I'd use... passionate maybe. Maybe that's why I'm underemployed, but I wouldn't do it another way.
When I was around 21-22, I worked in a lumber mill stacking lumber. About once a week we had to do 4x12's in lengths up to 24'. They avg'd about 225lbs. Even stacking 2x4's was back breaking though because we had to move so quickly.
I work the same at all my job although not all jobs are the same. I put 100% of myself in and go! I don't leave my end open to intepretation. I do what I do for my benefit and my own pride. I want to go home at the end of the day knowing no matter what the job I did MY best. That's all anyone can do!
I was working 30/40 hours weeks. That wasn't the problem, the problem would be when I'd get into work and I'd get asked to work a couple of extra hours. So I ended up working 50 or so hours a week. They'd always promise me they'd deduct the hours from the following week but never did. It was warehouse work as well I had to do a lot of carrying, pulling the palettes and unloading everything.
