Same definition for a real woman. Someone who knows who they are and is comfortable with it. Someone who realizes that you can be a good friend/partner/person for others without sacrificing yourself to someone else's life. Someone who isn't afraid to feel and let others know they do.

Sense of humor
Intellegent

Relaxed
Communicative
Participative

Well, when I was young and optimistic, I thought that it meant a man who would wear a kilt, and who treated me well. These days, I would settle just for the treated me well.

That's my snarky answer. I actually have a serious answer, but it would take me too long to type it. Will answer later on today when I have some time. :)

I was actually coming up with a much more intelligent reply while I was getting ready for work this morning, lol.

The basics of it were something like this. A real man (or a real woman) is a person who lives up to their responsibilities, who is responsible for themselves and their Stuff, and who dares to be who they truly are.

On a more serious note, someone who shows through actions that they are seeking to adjust the balances in their own soul while trying to do well unto the world around them by way of what capabilities they have. A juggler of body, mind and spirit applied within, without, and beyond.

Okay, to much thinky. Me nappy now...

I no longer define the qualities of humanity in terms of gender, any more than I do in skin colour. I find it better instead to ask what attributes we should be working towards before we turn ourselves into an extinction level event.

There is the school of thought that says we need an near-extinction level event to evolve...

Only because there are so many of us on the planet at one time, and it will take a rather large anvil to fall on the heads of the masses at once, especially those in the upper tiers of society that so desperately cling to their status quo.

I believe that strength and evolution in the ecosystem are brought about by the diversity of lifeforms as well as the diversity present within those lifeforms. And that includes the celebration of life as well as warfare. To everything its season by the necessity of the natural cycle.

If an airborne plague that only allowed a one in 1,000 chance of survival suddenly escaped a lab or crossed over from monkeys in the Congo, there'd still be 6 million people left in the world. What's interesting is that there is evidence that the diversity of the human gene pool was far greater at some point in our distant early past, and that the present human genetic cross-section is what managed to get through the bottleneck.

(no really...I find it incredibly that most guys on my journal like to make fun of his age-he's only 25-but I find him far more mature than most any of them)

(I meant to have a silly in the sentence too!)

I really think most of it is born out of jealousy...I mean really...talking about my boyfriend as if he's a baby (How's the toddler? change any diapers lately?) doesn't really win points with me and really...shows me just how immature YOU are! (not the literal you...the collective you)

1) Doesn't shirk responsibility
2) Doesn't suppress emotions - whether tears or laughter
3) Believes in himself
4) Knows that honor doesn't mean rigidity
5) Loves life - and it shows thru in his ability to love others and to learn to love himself
6) Doesn't run from consequences, confrontations, or vulnerability.

I have no reference for actual comparison.

But i think it would be someone who's compassionate, strong, creative (not just intelligent), and he would definitely HAVE to be able to handle me in my worst moods.

That kind of guy would definitely be real enough for me. :)

Someone who is mature enough to respect the opinions and decisions of others. One who can be strong and still know when it's important to lean on the other person...and one thing that my aunt Denise always says

"Acute ta femme Abraham" It means, listen to your wife Abraham...a biblical reference that makes me laugh but honestly, someone who knows how to listen and be constructiv is what makes a person real. If you're not listening and taking in your surroundings, the people you surround yourself with everyday you might as well not be there therefore not real..

Does that make sence?? lol

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
