How do you approach the sales, with a plan, or just browse?

I hate shopping in meatspace, so I always have a plan.

I tend to ignore sales unless I really need something specific and then I probably won't find that specific item on sale, not in my size anyway.

Option 3 - pure avoidance. Whatever I'm after is still going to be on sale a week or more after Christmas. ;) Why bother with the crowds? Humanity at it's WORST. :P

If I do go to these kinds of sales, I usually begin with a plan that falls apart as I find many things to buy. Thus, why I usually stay away....I end up spending more money than I should!

Browse.

To quote Daryl Zero (Bill Pullman) in the movie The Zero Effect:
"Now, a few words on looking for things. When you go looking for something specific, your chances of finding it are very bad. Because of all the things in the world, you're only looking for one of them. When you go looking for anything at all, your chances of finding it are very good. Because of all the things in the world, you're sure to find some of them."

Using this as a given, I look at everything. In this way, I expect nothing; thus, free from this, I find stuff to please the folks I'm shopping for. The exception being grocery shopping. One can not substitute sugar for lard and expect desired results. Unless you hate the person you're cooking for.

I don't approach them at all. I leave the house as little as possible until after the new year. hehe

I don't.
There are rarely sales on book, art or kitchen supplies and they are the only things that really turn me on.
Besides sales, usually means huge crowds of people, therefore to me Sales = RUN!
