If God's existence could be proved or disproved, would you want to know?

Yes.

Even if I could prove that god didn't exist, those with faith would say that my proof was the work of the devil and proved nothing. Their faith wouldn't change. Like all those people who have faith and are happy believing that god exists, I'm happy in the knowledge the I know in my own mind that god doesn't exist.

Hm, I don´t know, I wouldn´t give an arm and leg to know it, but if someone would tell me I wouldn´t close my ears either.
In the end it wouldn´t make a difference for me because it wouldn´t change a thing in my life or me.

God's existence can already be proved to my own satisfaction...because no matter what any outside force or experiment seems to prove, nothing can change the small unshakable voice inside me that always believes there's more to life than what we're seeing.

Doesn't mean I subscribe to any particular faith's picture of how things are or what God is...but I still know there's something there.

So...no, no I wouldn't go out of my way to know. Because even if someone did appear to have proved the inexistence of God, it still wouldn't change my beliefs deep down.

Yes, absolutely. Let's end the friggin debate once and for all. Though as someone else noted, all the proof in the world wouldn't matter. With strong faith comes strong denial. Devout people of faith will always construct some rationalization to protect their illusions.

I think it is cool that I am strong enough to believe in something without having to shake hands with it. So, no, I don't need to have something proven to me that I already feel in my heart everyday and that is proof enough for me.

Yes. Why? Because what would follow would be to make the philosophical empirical. The world could get its collective head out of there asses and we could for once be on the right page. The best thing about that is that we wouldn't be bored because there could be many aspects of the same thing to explore and understand.

Yes. I want to know if quarks contain vibrating strings.

Speaking of which, hey, doesn't the Super Swiss/French Atom Smasher go online this month? We might get our proof, those of us who see "God" in a symphony of vibrating strands of energy. ::fingers crossed::

Heh, my son and I kind of enter this debate a bit. He always likes to throw Pascal's wager at me (as an atheist): If he is wrong, he stands to lose nothing. Whereas, if I am wrong, I stand to lose everything (after death). It's funny that a lot of Christians fail to grasp that in the big god-debate, there is more than one way to be "wrong". He could just as easily be wrong by Muslim or Hindu standards. I always throw this one back at him.

What if god were proven to exist, but it was not your god? What if Allah (and I'm talking by Wahhabism standards here) was the one, true god? Would he drop being Christianity and adopt islam?
