I have also played flute, clarinet, and the recorder, as well as a bamboo flute and an ocarina, but I play none of those well (nor have I played flute or clarinet in over 20 years).
I had planned to go to music school until my parent's divorce got in the way. it's probably the one thing I come close to regretting. I'm hoping to join a community band or orchestra once both kids are in school and I have more time to myself.
I can play the sax quite well (when I still practiced/played often, I would get paying gigs, fill in for orchestras, etc) but the other instruments (piano, drums, guitar) are self taught so my skill level=nowhere near the sax level. Haha.
Yeah, toss me in with both of the groups that've already shown themselves: 1. non-practicers, and 2. don't-play-well-ers.
And voice too. The few things I've figured out on the guitar are quite possibly in the wrong key, because I worked them out based on my vocal rendering of the entire song (including guitar solos and such), which is correct as far as relative pitch, but might have started in the wrong key. (Also, I know about 7 chords, and hate F and B chords, so I go for an easier version whenever possible...)
I vaguely remember how to play the recorder and I attempted to learn keyboard for a while. I love music but am not good at it. I do sing though, badly, but I love it.
I started teaching myself ukulele in January 2007, mandolin in May of this year, and banjo in June. There will always be a lot I have to learn, but I'm making noticeable progress at all of them.
I also know a few guitar chords and can play some blues bass lines. Those are left over from my teens. I probably won't ever go any further with those.
I can play piano by ear, as well as violin. Not a prodigy, mind you, but I can pick out basic melodies on the violin and more complex stuff on the piano. Takes some time though.
Nuffin. 4 years of organ lessons and I just never caught on beyond the basics (*ahem* nope, not even a euphemism). I do have a very sensitive ear for pitch and tempo, though.
My husband majored in voice and french horn way back when. He has a much beloved guitar as well...the icon made me smile. :)
I played alto sax in jr high and high school but just quit practicing after I went to college. Ive regretted that more than a few times over the years. :/
I own at least 3 guitars, which is equal to the number of chords I know..and I have a violin around here somewhere to that I never got around to learning.
My wanna-be musician side isn't as headstrong as my lazy side apparently. :)

Date: 2008-12-10 06:08 pm (UTC)To be honest, even when I bannged on it, I couldn't really say I played the drums.
But it is a goal that I'd add that to my list of "talents."
