Y'know, in college, my friend Ro and I were pseudo-lesbians for the day. We'd buy each other cards and go out to dinner. It was fabulous. Post-college, all my girlfriends and I would go out and we'd revel in our singleness. Now that I'm actually in a relationship, I feel very indifferent about the holiday. I don't really care, whereas when I was single I was very aware of it, but never lamented the fact that I was alone, unlike my friend Meghan who still hates the holiday. It really doesn't make any sense -- she's single, she's been single for years, she's single on a day-to-day basis, but somehow she forgets about that until February 14th.
I'm going to visit Dan tomorrow, but we aren't even going out tomorrow night but Wednesday night. Neither of us really buy into the holiday, and I have made him swear that he is never to buy me a pink stuffed animal or a heart-shaped box of chocolates. He has agreed :-D
