I agree. Do you really want a list of nearly every song I've ever heard?

well...

when Jimmy Eat World- Sweetness starts playing it is essential that you find the nearest parking lot and begin spinning immediately... if you consider spinning to be dancing

and then there are songs like, System of a Down- Chop Suey and The Talking Heads- Psycho Killer, and Alien Ant Farm- Glow, that require you to jump around and be silly

and Cherry Poppin' Daddies- Zoot Suit Riot requires swing dancing, and you can't hear Celia Cruz- Carnaval and not salsa

and the playing of any Shakira song, Kylie Minogue-Chocolate, Sean Paul- Like Glue, Rupee- Tempted to Touch, or the remix of Starsailor- Four to the Floor, and fifty million other songs will result in instantaneous dancing.

Not to mention things like Gunther-Ding Dong Song, Gay Pimp- Soccer Practice, Christina Aguilera- Dirty, and most any bad pop song which will all lead to an attempt to recreate the video.

Pretty much anything with a swing beat (songs by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Brian Setzer and the Squirrel Nut Zippers come to mind) will have me pretending I know how to swing in seconds. This usually lasts until I knock and ankle into something unforgiving and hobble off to get an ice pack.

Most of Tchaikovsky's ballets have a dance itch in them, too. I got to dance the Nutcracker a few times when I was a kid and still thought I could be a ballerina when I grew up (not likely with my bone structure...I would be in a wheelchair right now if I'd ever tried to dance en pointe) and his music still makes me want to do graceful leaps and pirouettes (see icon).

Finally, Celtic dance music or any reasonable facsimile thereof (I have a disc of Nordic folk that contains a few tracks that you could easily clog to if, unlike myself, you actually possessed the coordination to9 clog at all). When there's no one else home, I turn on Joanie Madden, the Chieftains or Cherish the Ladies and pretend I'm Michael Flattley, Lord of the Dance.

I LOVE your icon, and your music selections.

Around Christmas one year the Nutcracker Suite started playing and I had to perform the whole thing, (which is really really hard as there are many parts, and I haven't formally done ballet in years,) for my roommate... who nearly died laughing.

Yeah, the Nutcracker is fun. I have read that Tchaikovsky actually hated it, thought it was his worst work. Of course, it's also his most famous and arguably his most beloved work. Goes to show you never can tell what the audience will love, I guess. Tchaikovsky's sacred music is absolutely stunning, but not as dance-able. :)
