Would you rather get an honest opinion, even if it hurts?

My answer: Every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

most definitely...if someone lies, the truth will come out at one point and then it will hurt more than if it was told from the beginning..

Would you count hiding as dishonesty?

What if someone simply hides the truth, as opposed to lying?

Me? Hide? I wouldn't do that! ;)

Your answer put me in mind of Cardinal Richelieu, and his famous quote... "Treason is merely a matter of dates"

Yes, at least you can face the pain head-on and move forward rather than be stabbed in the back or made a fool of.

I certainly would like to be told the truth whenever witholding it would hurt me in some way. But, at the same time, there's a point when people can go a bit...crazy with the honesty.

The truth can hurt, but it can also be made into a positive influence...

Hiding the truth is as bad as telling a lie.

yeah, but some people can revel in it- some people use the excuse of honesty for being downright insulting.

sadly, in the past few years, i have been unfortunate enough to meet a LOT of them.
So, to conclude- CONSTRUCTIVE honesty is great.

it can't hurt more than knowing you've been lied to.
the truth, no matter how much it hurts, allows you to move on...

It's not the truth that hurts, it's the intent behind telling the truth...

If the intent is to help, then the truth will never hurt.

not necessarily...

you can say a truth that hurts even if you wanna do good...
for example a friend of mine was cheated by her boyfriend and she was doing a lot of things for that guy and was suffering a lot 'cause he blamed her for every bad thing in their relationship and she was really thinking he was right.Than a common friend of hers and her boyfriend's told her he was acting like this 'cause he was cheatting on her...you think she didn't suffer...but now she has moved on and she's happy...

I would prefer...

to be slapped across the face with the truth, than patted on the back with a lie.

The boyfriend should have told her the truth early on, it would have hurt less...

But yes, I see your point.
