Is there a better way than jail for rehabilitation, and if so, what do you think it is?

i think jail does nothing. i have seen it in so many cases. i have had friends who were on their second strike and still use. i am not sure what would help. i mean if you really truly want to rehabiltate yourself, then you would get off your ass and do it. i got clean and sober without any help. i think this involves any kind of rehabiltation..in my mind.

what a great question.

Thank you Nikki :)

Yes, all jail does is put criminals together so that they can have even less positive influence that outside...

Remind me after monday...getting ready
last min preps for my cruise. But, I will
leave you w/this... I am a firm believer of
an eye for an eye. If it were up to me there
would not be an abundance of prisons.

I am a strong supporter of capital punishment. It's amazing how low the crime rates were when the death penalty was actually enforced.

It's called "Preventative Maintenance". If you know the punishment (you're gonna die) before you do the crime...

As for rehabilitating - why? It's costly and ineffective. Our jails and prisons are overcrowded as it is. We have people sitting on death row - who are getting COLLEGE DEGREES. WTF?!?

Since when did jail and prison become something OTHER than PUNISHMENT?!?

Jail and imprisonment are archaic, it should never have been about punishment... If we can't help people let go of the need to hate, or commit crime, we're pretty much stuck in the cycle of hurting each other forever.

Ummm... hello--?!?

Too many people in too small of a space. Doesn't look like it's gonna change any time too soon. (Not unless we have one kickass plague, cuz AIDS ain't doing it)

What you're talking about is science fiction. I wish you well on your endeavors to attempt to make the changes.

eye for an eye.

you kill someone, you die
you rape someone, you get raped in the most painful way, and then we should probably kill you anyway, cause most of them are habitual
you steal, we take everything from you, and make you get a really bad job, like mcdonald's fry cooker
you do drugs, we send you to rehab, and if that doesn't work or you fail at rehabilitation habitually, we give you a lethal injection

honestly some people aren't worth saving.

i agree, but the majority of the human race live their lives day to day without committing crimes.

oh, and one more thought

instead of jails or institutions (not saying we don't need any, just less) we could use the money and resources pumped into giving these guys free room and board, and in some cases cable t.v. into more electronic monitoring and more probation officers (who have more authority to force you to stay in line) there's nothing wrong with a little police brutality in some cases. (i sound really harsh)

i dont think there is one great answer for that. some would benifit from a different program while others would do worse in one...

definitally and pet therapy

ive seen programs where inmates actually help train helping eye dogs. and the benifit with them is they can devote day and night to the dogs unlike most people leave them home alone for part of the time

They could have the choice of either the military or learning self-care and self-love from someone like my teacher. It's not silly, don't laugh.
