Religion = conviction, yes? Or, at least, it seems to me that it should. So the question becomes "is conviction an acceptable reason for conflict". To which I would have to answer "yes". No point having convictions if one is just planning to abandon them at the first hint of adversity. Personally, I like to avoid conflict wherever possible, and I wish more people did likewise, but there are some things more important than my blood-pressure.
More correctly, it's "thou shalt not murder" not "thou shalt not kill". "Thou shalt not kill" would be rather an odd and cumbersome commandment, in my opinion, not to mention contradictory in a religion that advocates the death sentence and a few different types of war. Given this fact, it's surprising how many branches of Christianity use the term "kill".
Which, of course, opens the door to much tail-eating argument over the exact definition of "murder" and whether war and/or execution fall under the heading, blah blah blah. But my original answer stands. :)
Hm...upon looking at the other comments here, it would seem I've misunderstood your question. I thought we were defining "conflict" as any kind of contention, be it verbal, social or physical. Apparently what you actually wanted to know was "is religion a good excuse for killing people?" Had I known I was dealing with such a stacked deck, I would have skipped the issue altogether. :)
