Hmm... I don't really question many beliefs I was taught as they were not or religious origins and more just of a morality sort of stance. Be repsectful of others, be kind, be polite, I guess those are less beliefs and more, I don't know.
The only 'belief' if it is one, that I was taught that I have strayed from, or questions, or twisted to suit my life and my life experiences is the idea of monogamy.
I am sure this is not what you were asking or looking for, sorry for going a bit off topic. I am a bit scattered these days. I owe you a phone call, just been uber busy, ran out of time for everything, my apologies.
I was raised in an ateist Soviet Union, and my father was ateist, but with every minute of my life I realise now that he was the most piouse person I knew. He stated the same - respect for others, help and support, being honest -so nothing would contradict with the Bible or Quran's commandments. Only when I grew up I started (and still do) discovering some aspects of different religions. The most incredible thing that I have found for myself is that none from World known (let's name them Guru), so none from real Guru have never ever written even a line about how to live - only their followers did - f.e. Bible was written by Apostles but not Jesus, Buddha haven't written a word for us, has Muhammed? I doubt it. I know, all of them were saint people, I have no doubt about that, as so many people still talk and belive in their powers, but I also don't take any word which is written in the books even religious, as I know that those books have been written by people, and it's normal for people to make mistakes, so they could easily deforme the meaning of what Jesus or Buddha or Muhammed or Lao-tzu were saying to the World. I have lots of questions, but I dont ask them anymore, as I hardly can find a person who would really explain me what those Seers were saying indeed. The most frequently asked question was how can God allow wars where innocent people live, or how come that one is born healthy and an another one blind or deaf,so where is the justice and the equility in the World and Bible sais we are equal?.. Now I don't ask them. Huh. I have written too much here. I am sorry:) I just took two volumes of History of Religions:) Your question will make me start them today, I think:)
I would have to say that I always use to question why people didnt embrace those who didnt believe in christ. I always wondered why we labeled people and things secular, and made them sound so horrid and fearful.
All of it. The basic teachings for the average people are sound, but the holier than thou aspect should be exorcised like a cancer.
If I had to choose specifics, however, I'd say Extra ecclesiam nulla salis or outside the Church there is no salvation. Gandhi is simply not going to hell, and neither are the other good people who weren't Catholics. That's a doctrine written by men and not a deity.
Then there is Papal Infallibility, a doctrine penned in July 1870 stating that the Holy See is protected from errors when speaking officially on matters of faith or morals. Two words: 1) Crusades. 2) Inquisition.
I call bullshit. Furthermore, for its forethought and knowing executions of malicious lies and atrocities in God's name, I excommunicate the ecumenical part of Christianity from itself.
That anyone else on the planet actually follows the tenets of their faith/system, without setting it aside and/or modifying it every time it becomes inconvenient for them and their personal gratification.
I keep trying to think of something, and honestly...all the questions I can remember having (and there have been many) have been answered at some point or another. Huh. I'm only 24, so I assume that I'll stumble across a whole new set of quandaries to find answers for sometime soon, here...
Divorce is sin. - it doesn't seem to take abuse into account. Remarriage after divorce is a adultry - seems to really leave women in a horrible position, even now. Neither seem to be very compassionate in unbearable cercumstances.
I can't reconsile this. . No matter how hard I try. . and the fact that human beings are so fallable. . .and the world is such a rough place, and the need to love and be loved is so important. . .nothing makes sense with this.
Except for one thing. . .but I won't go into that.
It seems that a blanket statement would cover all possibilities of missing something down the road.
That is the only thing that makes any sense to me right now.

I thought the adultery aspect in Catholicism affected men too?
