In actuality, my head is pretty hard, I can whack it pretty good and barely notice it except for the rather audible thud.
As for my tendency to tilt at windmills, I think it comes from my childhood. While I was overall a happy and content child, some things went on that by today's standards highly qualify as abuse (most of them having to do with religion). My tendency to react to people who are bigger and stronger than me who want to push me around is to figure "if you're gonna beat me anyway, I'm gonna make sure that you will live to regret it BEFORE you do it (and afterwards, too, if I'm still around)". If anything, I think they succeeded in beating the fear of God OUT of me, and quite a lot of respect for anybody in authority. I actually had a quite well formulated opinion at the age of five that all adults were just crazy. So anything that smacks of ordering me around tends to get a good dose of the piss and vinegar from me. And if you try to tell me how things are supposed to work, I will go out of my way to prove you wrong, no matter how self-destructive things get in the meantime.
Hopefully with good management, I can prevent the little one from being quite as cussed, and to make that stubbornness and determination work in her favor, rather than against it. My policy tends to be to let the little things slide rather than make an issue out of them -- I save that for potentially life-threatening situations when I can.
