My old family surname was anglcised to Gaynor, but if i go far back enough, it was MagFinnbhair, which means "the clan of the fair haired" and was Finbheara's clan.
Amazing what you can discover if you go back far enough! :)
My spirituality is a diverse mixture of my Celtic roots, some Far Eastern philosophies, Native American beliefs, and more... not too mention my own slant on them and my naturally cynical disposition on life and the universe. I can't call on a specific God/dess in any culture, because I refuse to believe that any of them give a crap about humanity, anymore than we give a damn for insects. But I believe in the tide, ebb and flow of natural laws, and I believe in my own association and power within the great infinite Web of Being. And in that, I am strong.
While I haven't found my deity yet, I have pretty strong convictions and worthy theories. I may be my deity because I can create my own paradises and hells that are satisfactory to me. The will of all of humanity might be agents to a divine consciousness unto itself if what the swarm-logic and AI software creators are on the right track.
I read "Prey" by Michael Crichton not long ago and it got me thinking that humans might just be a larger version of the nano-robotic agents that made up the collective consciousness of the swarms in the book. We might not be aware of our higher consciousness, although the clerics of the world would have you subscribe to the verisimilitudes and memes they've been taught. If theoretically small agents can have an evolving swarm intelligence, what might the collective intelligence of humans be capable of?
I don't believe in deities. To me, and this is just my opinion, they are at best an interesting fairy tale and at worst nonesense and have no rational or scientific basis- i.e. steeped in theories based on stories written by human beings. Therefore, I find it hard to believe in any sort of 'fairy tales'. I find often people who seep their lives in deities, or gods/Gods use them as an excuse or rational for their behavbiour or a band aid and I find this offensive and an act in futility.
Saying all this, I believe everyone has the profound right to do and believe in anything they choose and I respect their right as I would hope they would respect my right.
I believe in morality, treating people with respect and love
I was going to say 'ME' also, as ultimatly I feel we must like and love and look up to ourselves and live to what we feel is important and moral etc. I guess I just don't think of 'ME' as a deity, so that had me come undone a bit when going to post. The whole 'be true to oneself'. Thanks for posting this, I agree, not that it matters if I agree or not, but anyway, thanks. *friendly smile*
I believe she's from Wales. But I was kinda being a smart ass implying horses are my religion. I'm sort of a Pagan-Christian and that's harder to explain...
I dearly want it to be God, but I'm afraid Osama started a ball to roll that eventually wiped my faith off my sleeves. I have no deity, I am here alone, until I am not.
