When I was a teenager, I had some overdue magazines from the library. I was going to drop them in the drop off and then pay the dues the next time I went into the library. He said you will not get away with paying later, you will pay them now. I had to take them in right then and there and pay the overdue fines on them, oh yeah, with dad right behind me!
He was hard on us in some ways, some ways very flexible, but when it came to truth and respect, you gave it regardless of whether it was given to you.
Lots of valuable lessons to pass on and use for myself ... :) I believe him to be an angel now. When Andrea was between 1 and 2 years old, I was putting her to bed. She saw an angel standing beside her and said it was grandpa .... smiles ... I still get tingles when I think of that moment.
