It means that even when you hate the person, you still let them hang around and eat your food, and you don't behead them for losing books you lend to them.
Respect, honesty, loyalty. The ability to allow the other person to be themself while accepting all the stuff that makes them who and what they are. Laughter, shared memories, love, light. Sadness, shared memories, love, knowing you have another person to hold you, or hold your hand if you need it. Someone you can cry to, rage with, and scream to the sky with; someone that understands that you might need some time alone (and is always willing to wait for you). And sometimes it's just being, together, and knowing someone cares as much about you as you do about them.
i believe bro in this instance qualifies as a non-gender-specific pronoun. the french do understand the complexity of wine, cheese, and surrender, however.
A friend would be one who offers to help when help is needed, rather than hopes they won't be asked, calls because they enjoy your company, tells you when you've stepped over a line or if they notice a change in your behavior. A friend has some idea of who you are, and has developed their notions out of interest, not necessity. My friend would be true to their word, show up when scheduled, give willingly and receive graciously. My friend cares about me not only in relation to how my happiness will affect their relationship with me, but because I am worth thier attentions, or love as it were.
I'd bore you to tears if I kept going, but let's say a friend is someone who, when they ask "how are you", actually want an answer, good or bad, long or short.
A friend is someone who is there for you no matter what. They carry your secrets to the grave. Tell you when you're being a rotten cow. Someone who is willing to listen to your problems and help you through them. Make you laugh and smile every chance they get. Who you can fight and argue with and know the very next day you'll both be laughing and forgetting the whole thing. They do all this and yet don't expect anything in return.
A friend is chosen family. A person you cherish above anyone else.
