Would you rather push yourself and learn from failure, or stay steady and fail less often?

i'm not afraid of failing.it's worst not trying.from failure you can learn something and succeed later, but not trying you don't learn nothing and you don't get anywhere...

I push myself but I'd rather learn from success then failure ... but I guess if we fall we only have up to go .... it just hurts so damn much ... but pain lessens. I just personally do not like failure or accept it. I'd like to fail less often but then it would mean I was doing less and reaching for less too.

You're a perfectionist baby :)

Pushing and succeeding as often as you do is a very special gift :D

They do say though, that there is more to be learnt from failure than success...

Perfectionist - yes indeedy.

I have heard that old adage, but you know what .. I find I learn more about bitterness from failure than the positives. I know we must fail to be humble and to not take things for granted. I just don't like it at all. There has to be a better way to learn and be humble and grateful for what we do have and can accomplish, then failure.

Hmmm. I think that it depends on the situation. I think that steadiness has its place, but after a while it can stagnate if change is not put into action. For me there is a time for steadiness and a time for change. It's really only a matter of recognizing which is necessary.
There is an occult saying that I try meditating on a lot. It goes, "change is stability and stability change." Kind of reminds me of the human body. If the heart stops the body dies.

With writing, especially, the only way to learn is to push yourself, and explore new ideas in different ways...

Hmmm. Me, personally, I don't like to think of failure as failure. I think that mistakes are just a series of steps on the road to perfection. So really, there are no mistakes. Just things that grow to perfection over the course of time and, of course, practice practice practice.

It's good to think that way Nate and I wish I was so inclined as well. Too many years brought up to believe failure is just that and there is no excuse for failure. That's why I am a perfectionist. There was no other way to be for me growing up. A mistake growing up for me had serious reprecussions. My mother was not tolerant of mistakes.

I'm sorry your mother instilled those values in you. A person could waste a lot of time condemning themselves for their "mistakes".
There is one saving grace to your personality, so far as I know. And that's that you don't ever seem to give up. Am I right?

P.S.

Oh and by the way, I didn't always have the outlook I try to uphold today. It took a lot of psychological deprogramming to uproot and revalue all the values I was taught growing up.

I find I can't give up. I'm not programmed that way. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. But you know what Nate, I'd rather be like this, then someone who gives up way too easily and too soon.

:)

Maybe one day I too will be less hard and harsh on myself and be able to make a mistake without thinking my world will start falling apart because of it.

*hugs*
