I believe only I can hold my true happiness, that there has to be something within the self that allows one to accept things that bring them joy. That there needs to be internal self-love and acceptance, desire and want as well as love of other things for happiness to grow inside.

I do believe that other things and people can precipitate happiness, but I don't think they hold it. I think you can find joy in others, that they can hold their own happiness which might be infectious and flow outward, but still if internally things are not right with you, it would be lost and plant seeds.

So, if you're happy with yourself, then you feel happiness easier?

Yes...

If I am unhappy with me, if I feel I am undeserving, or have not earned it or whatever other negative internal demons scream loudest then I find it hard to feel 'true happiness'. I find it hard to let it grow inside, or to let external happiness come in and nurture my own seeds of happiness. Does this make any sense? *blush*
