First or second from the front, by the door. I never remember being given a choice in high school -- we were always arranged alphabetically by last name, and my name starts with 'B'. I remember one class, there were a lot of people whose last name started with 'A' so I was halfway back -- it was a real problem because I am near-sighted.
Yes, I am pretty much a creature of habit, too, so the one time we were given a choice, I insisted on holding my ground and keeping my seat (especially when it became an issue! Someone else wanted that spot, and claimed it was their turn, but I claimed possession as 9/10 of the law, and I didn't give ground ... I can be stubborn to the point of idiocy, sometimes, but that's me, LOL)
